Active Release Technique
The Active Release Technique (ART) is a patented soft tissue system and movement-based massage technique that is used to treat problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. ART is designed to address conditions such as headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow, among others.
During an ART session, a certified practitioner uses their hands to evaluate the texture, tightness, and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. The practitioner then applies specific ART protocols to treat abnormal tissues by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.
The goal of ART is to restore optimal texture, motion, and function to the soft tissues of the body and eliminate or reduce pain and dysfunction. It is often utilized by healthcare professionals such as chiropractors, physical therapists, and sports medicine practitioners. ART is commonly employed as part of a comprehensive treatment plan for musculoskeletal conditions and injuries.
